TRADE SECRETARY VISITS BOSTON EXPORTING SUCCESS STORY

On Thursday 2nd March 2017, Matt Warman MP hosted a visit from the Secretary of State for International Trade, Dr Liam Fox MP, to Jakemans confectioners in Sutterton.

During the visit, which included a factory tour, Jakemans showcased showcase their ongoing growth and their involvement within international exporting. Staff told the Trade Secretary about their brand’s growth in the United States since they opened their subsidiary in New Hampshire over 6 years ago, and their experience in trading in other countries across the world including several Middle Eastern markets.

Matt said, “I was delighted to welcome the Trade Secretary to Jakemans to show him one of Boston’s national and international success stories and hear about their experiences of exporting. Dr Fox outlined how the Government can help businesses looking to start or expand their exporting through its Exporting is GREAT campaign. This support is vital to business as we start to forge new trade deals across the world following the Brexit vote and I was pleased to receive the Secretary of State’s confirmation that he will do all he can to help connect businesses to new markets.”

David Cole, Managing Director of Jakemans added, “We were delighted to invite Liam into the factory and demonstrate first-hand, the commitment that Jakemans and Lanes Health have for investing in the Boston-based manufacturing plant. As a family owned business, we are passionate about providing secure and new employment opportunities to people in Lincolnshire, as well as growing the brand’s home and international status. This year marks the 10th anniversary since Jakemans was acquired and with its ongoing demand within the UK, Us and other international markets, the brand’s growth is continuously on the rise.

Liam Fox commented, “I was really interested to hear how Jakemans is expanding and continuing to grow in the international exports area. Investing in new equipment means almost twice as many local people are being employed by the family-owned firm. The factory tour itself gave a valuable insight into the efficiency of the Jakemans operation and I can say from that it is one of the most efficient in the world. These are the sorts of achievements that are happening in the heart of the country and I want to champion them nationally and internationally. That means making sure firms such as Jakemans have all the help from the government and councils to allow them to continue their growth within the market.”
